Havana, May 25 (RHC) -- The President of the Republic and First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, went this Saturday to the embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in Havana, to express condolences for the death of the Iranian President, Dr. Sayed Ebrahim Raisi, and his companions in the plane crash.

On behalf of the Cuban people and government, the president expressed that he will "always remember the sincere friendship shared in fruitful meetings", in which they mutually expressed the common interest in advancing the development of both nations and confronting injustice in the world.

Díaz-Canel reiterated support for the brother Iranian people and their leadership.

"We know that they will find the strength to defend the great dreams of national, regional and international peace and prosperity, to which President Raisi dedicated his life," he said.

On behalf of Díaz-Canel, this Friday Ambassador Pedro Luis Pedroso Cuesta arrived in Iran as Special Envoy to convey the support and solidarity of the Cuban people after the physical disappearance of President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahiam and other senior leaders.

At the Iranian Embassy in Havana, Díaz-Canel was accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez.
