Havana, June 15 (RHC) Cuba reiterated today its rejection of the US government's intention to strip Venezuela of the Citgo company, in clear violation of International Law.

In a message on X, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez denounced the actions of the White House that are part of its strategy to suffocate the Venezuelan economy and defeat the Bolivarian and Chavista Revolution.

The Cuban authorities have repeatedly denounced Washington's maneuvers to take over the Citgo Petroleum Corporation (Citgo), which was also recently denounced by the ALBA-TCP.

In this context, the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People's Treaty (ALBA-TCP) called the steps of the Biden administration immoral and illegal, and demanded the cessation of coercive measures against the South American nation.

At the beginning of 2024, the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) of the United States refused to review the ruling previously issued by a federal district court in the state of Delaware that allowed Citgo's financial resources to be used for debts of the Venezuelan government.

Venezuela had filed an appeal for review before the SCJ, but that adverse ruling confirmed the serious damage caused to the national interests and assets of the Venezuelan people by opposition leaders integrated into the self-styled “National Assembly 2015”.

The government of President Nicolás Maduro described these actions as a “clear transgression” of the norms that govern peaceful coexistence between States. (Source: PL)
