Havana, July 15 (RHC) Deputies to the National Assembly of People's Power gathered in the Permanent Work Commission for Industry, Construction and Energy evaluated on Monday in Havana the country's progress in the incorporation of renewable energy sources to alleviate the situation of the National Electricity System.

The space, dedicated to analyze the results in the control and supervision of investments in photovoltaic solar parks and the maintenance of thermoelectric power plants, was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Ramiro Valdés.

The Minister of Energy and Mines, Vicente de la O Levy, said that work is currently underway on a program for the installation of 92 photovoltaic parks that will contribute to the saving of fossil fuels.

He pointed out that the progress of these projects depends on the entry of the necessary resources for their implementation.

In order to ensure the control of the investments, De la O Levy clarified that the structures of the Electric Union have been set up in the territories in order to follow up these works.

As a result of the actions, he detailed that by the beginning of next year Cuba is expected to reach the first thousand Megawatts (MW) of generation from these sources, which seeks to contribute to a certain independence from fossil fuels.

This still does not solve the current situation, but it defines the strengthening of installed capacities and the rational use of energy, he added.

At the meeting it was assured that the largest of the Antilles is working on the change of the energy matrix although there are still unfulfilled investments and lack of financing, with some works paralyzed in the provinces of Ciego de Avila, Matanzas and Guantanamo.

Among the proposals to influence these programs, they highlighted the need to establish work systems with local authorities for the systematic checking of the works and to incorporate universities in the technical inspections for quality control.

The deputies also informed that a new bill for the energy transition in Cuba is in the process of being drafted.

Today and tomorrow the work of the Permanent Working Commissions of the National Assembly of People's Power is being developed as a prelude to the Third Ordinary Session of the 10th Legislature of the highest body that governs the country. (Source: ACN).
