Havana, August 9 (RHC) -- The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel, highlighted this Thursday the bronze medal won by Luis Alberto Orta in the 67 kilogram Greco-Roman wrestling event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

“Orta defended with strength and shame to be on the Olympic podium,” wrote the head of state on the social network X, along with the hashtag #Paris2024.

“Give Cuba a bronze medal. Congratulations to the Havana native, who will surely demonstrate in upcoming challenges, like a true gladiator, why he was the best Greco-Roman wrestler in the world in 2023,” he added.

On this day, Orta reached third place by beating Armenian Slavik Galstyan 7-0, whom he outperformed in every row, to get his second medal in summer events, along with the gold from Tokyo 2020, in the immediately lower division.

The Antillean fell, the day before, to Iranian Saeid Esmaeili, who later won the gold medal, after defeating Ukrainian Parviz Nasibov in the final fight. (Source: Prensa Latina)
