79th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Nagasaki

Havana, Aug. 9 (RHC) Cuba will continue to work for the total, transparent, irreversible and verifiable elimination of nuclear weapons, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez said today on the social network X.

The Cuban Foreign Minister made the statement on the 79th anniversary of the atomic bombing of the Japanese city of Nagasaki, which he described as an enormous crime committed by US imperialism.

The atomic bombs dropped on the civilian populations of the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on August 6 and 9, 1945, made Japan the only nation to suffer attacks of this magnitude.

In Hiroshima, approximately 66,000 people died at the moment of explosion, while in Nagasaki, 70,000 died at the moment of explosion; but in both cases, hundreds of thousands of inhabitants (mostly women and children) died later as a result of radiation. (Source: PL)
