Soberón called for establishing a true agenda in the face of challenges such as the attack on the lives of children in Palestine, hunger, illiteracy, lack of medical care and poverty worldwide

Havana, September 3 (RHC) Cuba today ratified its commitment to the mandate of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), considering its work and political will essential.

The island's permanent representative to the UN, Ernesto Soberón, called for establishing a true agenda in the face of challenges such as the attack on the lives of children in Palestine, hunger, illiteracy, lack of medical care and poverty worldwide.

In the second regular session of the UNICEF Executive Board, the diplomat thanked the exchange with the organization to study the negative effects of climate change in the Caribbean country due to its status as a small island state.

In that sense, he highlighted recent research focused on analyzing the differentiated impacts of the phenomenon on childhood and adolescence, in conjunction with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment.

This initiative, he assured, will allow the country to reinforce public policies and carry out more focused work in that area.

The exchange with UNICEF has also allowed enhancing the production of contextualized teaching tools and materials for teachers and students, which facilitate environmental education.

Soberón ratified the priority given by the Cuban Government to the well-being of children and adolescents, despite the intensification of the US economic, commercial and financial blockade of the island. (Source: Prensa Latina)
