Havana, October 23 (RHC-acn) -- The Institute of Geophysics and Astronomy (IGA by its Spanish acronym) announced in Havana that a partial eclipse of the sun, visible in central and western Canada, the U.S., Mexico and the Pacific Ocean, will take place this afternoon.

It explained, however, that in Cuba will be visible, in theory, the beginning of the eclipse in the western part of the country, but with the Sun very low over the horizon and close to setting, so it will probably go unnoticed.

In Havana, the eclipse will start to be seen at 18:35 hours with the Sun at four degrees above the horizon, and it will set 20 minutes later, the institution specified on information sent to ACN.
The next eclipse of the sun visible in Cuba will be in the early afternoon of August 21, 2017, with a medium to large magnitude.

Currently, IGA´s researches are included in the National Science and Technology Program, particularly in that of Global Change and Cuban Sustainable Development.
