Washington, March 31 (RHC)-- In what many considered an unprecedented meeting, top official delegations from Cuba and the United States are in Washington, discussing human rights and other related issues.

The meeting's agenda includes democracy, political systems and the nations' compliance with international norms and regulations.

The current talks are in the framework of an ongoing rapprochement between Washington and Havana to reestablish diplomatic relations.

In a statement to press, Anayansi Rodríguez, Cuba's permanent representative in Geneva and a member of the island's delegation to the current round of talks, stated that despite the profound differences between Havana and Washington on human rights issues, the Cuban delegation expects and hopes for the same respectful, constructive atmosphere that characterized the previous rounds of bilateral talks, which began last January.
