Results Validated for the First Round of Cuba's Mid-term Elections

Havana, April 25 (PL-RHC)-- A total of 11,424 delegates were elected last Sunday, April 19th, during the first round of mid-term elections in Cuba, Granma newspaper reported Saturday.

The president of the National Electoral Commission (CEN), Alina Balseiro, said the 89.88 percent of voters went to the polls in the first round to elect delegates to the Municipal Assemblies of People's Power.

In the context of the election process. which was a sample of participatory democracy and support for the political system on the island, Balseiro noted that 90.52 percent of the ballots were valid, reflecting the quality of these votes. The CEN President also reported that blank ballots cast represented only 4.54 percent, while those considered invalid was 4.92 percent.

The highest electoral authority in the country recalled that a total of 165,000 constituencies, representing 9.25 percent of the total 12,000 589 in the country, will go to a second round in 149 municipalities.
