Santa Clara, June 20 (RHC) –- The Che Guevara monument in the central Cuban city of Santa Clara receives thousands of visitors each year. And as a confirmation of the power represented by the figure of Che Guevara -- who continues to point the way for millions around the world after nearly 50 years since his death in combat -- this past week the monument that bears his name in Santa Clara reported it had received exactly four million visitors since its founding in December 1988.

Elaine Faulner, a British tourist who was welcomed as 'Number Four Million' with her visit, told reporters that she was pleasantly surprised with the honor. “I’d been hearing about Che since I was small, but I’d never had the chance to come to this place, which is both impressive and moving,” said Elaine after receiving a gift from management.

According to Yaneski Gutierrez Fernandez, an employee at the complex, of the total number of visitors to the monument, 2,400,948 were foreigners and that most of these visitors come from Argentina, Italy, Canada, Spain, Germany and France.
