United Nations, September 28 (RHC)-- U.S. President Barack Obama expressed his confidence at the UN General Assembly that the U.S. Congress will inevitably lift “an embargo” that has no reason to exist, as he referred to the over-50-year economic, commercial and financial blockade maintained by Washington against Cuba.

Obama said that over the past 50 years, the United States has implemented a policy regarding Cuba that has failed and that this policy had to be changed.

The U.S. president said that his administration will continue to have differences with the Cuban government, but they will resolve them through diplomatic relations, by increasing trade and people-to-people exchange.

Cuba and the United States re-established diplomatic relations and opened embassies in their capital cities on July 20th. Both governments are now involved in a process aimed at the normalization of relations.

Just two days ago, Cuban President Raul Castro stressed at the United Nations that the U.S. blockade against Cuba inflicts damage and limitations on the Cuban people and that it is the main obstacle for the economic development of his country.
