Washington, December 1 (RHC) -- Cuba has reiterated its commitment to a legal, orderly and safe migration and that it will continue guaranteeing the right of Cuban citizens to travel, emigrate and return to the country, in accordance with the migration legislation currently in force.

A statement by the Cuban government –- published on the front page of this morning's Granma newspaper –- refers to the complex situation of more than 4,000 Cubans, who are stranded in Costa Rica. It explains that they left Cuba legally and also entered legally a first country of destination, from where they began their irregular trip to the U.S., encouraged by Washington's migratory policy towards Cuba.

The statement emphasizes that Cuban authorities are in permanent contact with authorities of the countries involved in the search for a speedy, adequate solution to the situation created.

The Cuban government again denounces Washington's manipulation of the migratory issue for political purposes and calls for a comprehensive solution.
