Havana Intends to Double Tourist Accommodation Capacity by 2030

Havana, May 6 (RHC)-- The Cuban capital intends to double its tourist accommodation capacity by 2030. To this end, the sector plans to speed up investment plans in face of the increasing numbers of foreign visitors who chose Cuba to spend their holiday vacations.

In statements to the press, Sonia Beltrán, representative of the tourism ministry in Havana said the capital currently has more than 11,300 tourist rooms scattered in hotels, villages and family homes, representing 20% of the country's total tourist accommodation capacity.

She added that for the next high season, the Cuban capital will have another 1400 rooms that are being remodeled in hotels, including Habana Libre, Habana Riviera, Acuario and Comodoro, as well as the reopening of the hotel El Viejo y el Mar.

In 2015, the Cuban capital welcomed one million 1,685,381 foreign visitors, representing a 21% increase compared to the previous year. In the first trimester of this year, 2016, tourist arrivals to the Cuban capital recorded a 37% increase from the same period last year.
