Havana, May 11 (RHC)-- Cuba has reported the 11th case of imported Zika virus.
The Cuban Ministry of Public Health said that the patient is a Cuban, who returned to the country on April 30th from Venezuela, where she was fulfilling a mission as part of existing bilateral cooperation programs in the field of culture.
On May 1st, the 43 year-old patient began to show symptoms of the disease, particularly fever and a rash, for which she was immediately admitted to a hospital in western Pinar del Río province.
The Cuban Health Ministry further said that the patient has made favorable progress, though she remains hospitalized in good general condition.
To this date, Cuba has reported twelve Zika virus infections, only one of which was a confirmed case of autochthonous transmission.
