Tokyo, June 2 (RHC) – Cuban First Vice President Miguel Diaz-Canel was received in Tokyo by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. The two leaders expressed determination to promote and strengthen bilateral ties in the political, commercial and economic fields.

Diaz-Canel conveyed greetings from President Raul Castro to the Japanese head of state, and renewed a Cuban government invitation for Prime Minister Abe to visit Cuba when his schedule allows.

The visiting Cuban vice president thanked Japan for its traditional support in demanding the lifting of the U.S. blockade against Cuba.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe pointed to the role that Japan’s Parliamentary League of Friendship with Cuba can play in diversifying bilateral ties, and agreed on the importance of expanding Japan’s investments in the Cuban economy.

During his visit to Japan, First Vice President Miguel Diaz-Canel traveled to the city of Hiroshima and met with Mayor Matsui Kazumi. Diaz-Canel also held talks with Representative Keiji Furuya, chairman of Japan’s Parliamentary League of Friendship with Cuba.
