Heart surgeons from Cuba and the world meet in Cardiovilla 2019

Santa Clara , October 8 (RHC)—Cuba’s most important cardiology event, Cardiovilla 2019, is kicking off Tuesday with the participation of renowned specialists from  more than 20 countries, who will debate about the main cause of death in the world and the most advanced ways to face cardiovascular diseases.

 

The event, organized every four years by the Santa Clara’s ’s "Comandante Ernesto Che Guevara" Cardiocenter will focus on the analysis of cardiovascular surgery and intensive perioperative care, interventional cardiology, vascular and large arteries surgery as well as congenital heart disease, cardiovascular anesthesiology, and regenerative medicine, among other topics.

 

According to Dr. Jesús Satorre Ygualada, director of the host organization, other topics for debate will be the introduction of new drugs developed by Cuba’s  Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB) for the treatment of ischemic heart conditions, as well as the so-called cardiology of the future based on three-dimensional models of artificial hearts, the application of nanotechnology, and the repair of valvular irregularities using novel methods.

 

Specialists from the US American College of Cardiology as well as other highly recognized experts  from Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Switzerland, Bolivia, Honduras, Italy, Panama, Dominican Republic are participating.

 

Since its foundation in 1988, the “Comandante Ernesto Guevara” cardiocenter  has performed more than 10,000 heart surgeries, with a  survival of 95.2%, among the highest in Cuba and comparable to that achieved by highly developed countries.
