Camagüey, July 19 (RHC)-- The Small Grants Program (SGP) of the Global Environment Facility will fund the opening of a butterfly park, located in the Botanical Park in Camagüey.
The plan, included in the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), is also part of the international collaboration agenda of the University of Camagüey, whose specialists are technical advisors, in conjunction with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA).
Experts from the CITMA Delegation stressed the importance of butterflies for the diversity of the ecosystems in which they live.
The facility, located 5 km from the city, declared a Cultural Heritage of Humanity, will also promote the public's introduction to the life cycle of a butterfly, and will offer information about the benefit of these lepidoptera for traditional gardening that allows their reproduction.
The national coordinator of the UNDP, Fabio Fajardo, stated that the project, bases and norms that legislate the program are to be passed by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Investment, according to the Cuban norms for international cooperation.
