Cuba attends International Atomic Energy Agency conference

Havana, September 18 (RHC) Cuba is participating in the 63rd ordinary session of the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), being held from September 16 to 20, 2019 in Vienna, Austria. It gathers high-ranking government officials and experts representing all member states.

The Cuban delegation is being headed by the deputy minister for Science, technology and the environment (CITMA), Jose Fidel Santana Nuñez.

According to the Cuban diplomatic mission in Vienna, the main objectives are to review budgetary and mandate-related matters of the Agency and to adopt decisions on issues raised by the Board of Governors, the Director General and Member States.

A Scientific Forum on issues related to nuclear science and technology is being held parallel to the IAEA General Conference.

On this occasion, Cuba is also attending the Forum entitled "A decade of cancer control action and the way forward."

Cuba is a founding member of the IAEA, an international agency with which it has maintained close, fluid and active cooperation.

The Cuban delegation to the IAEA General Conference also includes Ambassador Juan Antonio Fernandez, Cuba's permanent representative to the International Organizations based in Vienna and members of CITMA, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the country’s Permanent Mission in Austria.
