Havana, September 2 (RHC) – The Cuban Art University’s school year is set to officially begin with Act II of Giselle by the Cuban National Ballet company, according to a company report. At 8 p.m. the Art University, better known as ISA, will be hosting the dance classic, choreographed by company director, Alicia Alonso, after Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot.
The ballet is scheduled to be assumed by Cuban prima ballerina and deputy artistic director, Viengsay Valdés, along with other outstanding Cuban ballet dancers, such as Rafael Queneditt, Ernesto Díaz and Claudia García, supported by soloists and the ensemble’s famous corps de ballet. The Cuban dance legend’s choreographic version has been in the repertoire of prestigious international companies, such as Ballet del Teatro Colón in Argentina back in 1958; the Greek Theater in the United States in 1958 and the Paris Opera Ballet in 1972. In 1966 Alicia Alonso received the Grand Prix de la Ville de París at the 4th International Dance Festival held at the Champs-Élysée Theater for her version and personal performance of the ballet.
