Havana, April 1 (RHC)-- Cuban cultural authorities congratulated the country’s record and musical editions company EGREM and Cuban musicians represented by the prestigious label on occasion of EGREM’s 57th anniversary this March 31st.

The cultural authorities stressed that despite the negative impact of the Covid-19 and Washington’s blockade policy, EGREM has fulfilled its mission to produce and commercialize the work of Cuban musicians, thus contributing to the development of the country’s music industry.

At a ceremony held at the José Martí National Library, which will celebrate its 120th anniversary on October 18th this year, several musicians from EGREM’s vast catalog were recognized for their tireless effort, promoting Cuban music and culture amidst the current circumstances imposed by the pandemic. These included Buena Fe duo, the group Arnaldo Rodríguez y su Talismán, singer Waldo Mendoza and Ray Fernández and his group.

Also, in the framework of celebrations on the 57th anniversary of EGREM –the first record company founded after the 1959 Revolution—a new headquarter of the Center for Preservation of Music Archives was inaugurated. The Center treasures recordings prior to 1959 of record companies like Panart, including collections of Cuban classical music and phonographic licenses like an album by Nat King Cole, recording in 1957.
