Book on Cuba's health cooperation in times of Covid-19 presented in Havana

Havana, May 31 (RHC)-- The first secretary of the Cuban Communist Party, President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, attended the launch of the book ‘Diario de Turín, la solidaridad en tiempos de pandemia’ by writer Enrique Ubieta Gómez. The presentation took place over the weekend at Havana’s Casa de Las Américas.

In the book, readers will find reflections and interviews that reveal true stories and events experienced in Turin, Italy, by Cuban health professionals, members of Cuba’s Henry Reeve International Medical Brigade of Doctors Specializing in Serious Epidemics and Disaster Situations, who were sent there to assist in the fight against Covid-19.

Cuban intellectual Graziella Pogolotti, said that while the book focuses on the experiences of Cuban health professionals in that Italian city, those experiences are very similar to those of other Cuban professionals fulfilling internationalist missions in other parts of the world.

‘The book is clearly anti-imperialist,’ said the author, and stressed that the text invites to reflect based on two main questions: What kind of world led to this pandemic? And What kind of world will humanity strive for once this pandemic is over?

On hand at the book launch were Cuban health professionals, members of the Henry Reeve Brigade, whose life stories and experiences are compiled in ‘Diario de Turín, la solidaridad en tiempos de pandemia.’

An award-winning essayist and researcher, Enrique Ubieta Gómez said the book pays homage to the more than 400 thousand Cuban health professionals, who have fulfilled missions abroad over the past 58 years, and also to leader Fidel Castro, his revolutionary, internationalist legacy.
