Havana, June 16 (RHC)-- The 22nd edition of the Celestino Short Story Award offers new literary proposals, aimed at promoting the work by young Cuban storytellers, local media reports.

The event is sponsored by Ediciones La Luz publishing house in Holguin province. It includes the streaming of audiovisual materials on the official Facebook page of the publishing house and on Telegram, notably readings of short stories written by Guatemalan author Augusto Monterroso, to whom this year’s contest is dedicated on his 100th birthday anniversary -to be celebrated on December 21st, 2021.

Augusto Monterroso's short story, ‘The Dinosaur’ is considered the shortest in the history of literature. The Dinosaur reads: When it woke up, the dinosaur was still there.

The conference 'Cien años despues, el dinosaurio continua aquí' (One Hundred Years Later, the Dinosaur Is Still Here) is about the life and work of the Latin American narrator. Keynote speakers included also notable writers Eugenio Marron, Ruben Rodriguez and Liset Prego.

The event is also dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the Hermanos Saíz Association of Young Artists.

The 'Contar con la luz' workshop, also in the framework of the Celestino Short Story Award, took place Wednesday, with narrator Mariela Varona and publisher Adalberto Santos, offering narrative techniques related to the writing of fiction micro-stories.

The event’s program also includes promotion of the latest work by Cuban singer songwriter Rey Montalvo.

For the second consecutive year, the Celestino Short Story Award is taking place virtually, due to the health situation caused by Covid-19 in Cuba.
