Gerardo Alfonso
Havana, Sept. 21 (RHC)-- Cuban trova musician Gerardo Alfonso works on a new Musical Project entitled ‘La Ruta del Esclavo’, with Cuba’s record and musical editions company EGREM in collaboration with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
The Project includes an album, produced by Joaquín Betancourt with 15 tracks written by Alfonso himself. Titles include “La negra”, “El rio”, “Soy un mambí”, “El Güije”, “La letra”, “Sábila” and “Mi canto es universal.” The album covers several genres and rhythms with strong African influence: rumba, guaguancó, afro, songo, guayasón and ochanga.
The Project includes also several other cultural actions, involving Cubans of African descent, experts in race issues, folklore dance and music artists.
Gerardo Alfonso is a prolific singer-songwriter. His music is a beautiful mix, rich in influence from many musical genres from across Africa and the Caribbean. He masterfully weaves these sounds with his urban and popular roots, while never abandoning his trova spirit.
