Havana, May 2 (RHC)-- The new show of the Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba company titled Habana Fénix will go on stage on May 5 at the Martí Theater in Havana, with the promise of a rebirth of the group as a mythological bird.

According to director Lizt Alfonso, the world premiere is dedicated to the Cuban capital and the city's historian Eusebio Leal (1942-2020), and in the show the dancers are transformed into builders-restorers of Havana's Historic Center, transmitting the idea of resurgence, optimism and faith.

In keeping with the show, visual artist Alicia de la Campa conceived a work that, according to Alfonso, summarizes the essence of Habana Fénix.

It can be seen in the piece that above all adversities arises "a soul that flies to transmit hope, which is what humanity needs the most at this time," he stressed.

Habana Fénix will be on the bill at the Martí Theater until the 21st, with scenes and scenes that go from the DNA of Cubans, marked by the presence of Spain and Africa, to the present day, according to the director of the dance group.

The staging brings together several parallel worlds in different moments of national history, and from the Cuban perspective it is projected to an international scope, Alfonso told the press a few days before the premiere.

The soundtrack is based on a selection of Cuban composers such as Amadeo Roldán, Sindo Garay, Gerardo Alfonso, Guido López Gavilán, Lucía Huergo and Roberto Valera, among others, combined with Carmen Souto and Edesio Alejandro.

The show also draws on the choreographic imagination of dancers and teachers trained in the company, as well as the director Lizt Alfonso herself.

Among the solo dancers on stage will be Talía Gil, Ellie Lurent, Miguel Ángel Cala, Yaslubia Díaz, Keyla Cruz and Rocío Vázquez, backed by the corps de ballet and a selection of students from the group.
