Pinar del Río, June 16 (RHC)-- The traveling photographic exhibition ‘Che fotógrafo. Un artista llamado Ernesto Guevara’ opened in the westernmost province of Pinar del Río, as part of activities on the 95th anniversary of Che’s birthday.

It includes photos taken by Che Guevara himself between 1950 and 1966. These include photos of his travel to Machu Picchu in 1952, his visit to Japan to pay tribute to victims of the US 1945 bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, also his visit to the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt. Also on display are a self-portrait of Che Guevara taken in Argentina in 1951 and another photo of Che and his wife Aleida March in Tanzania in 1966.

Iconic Cuban places feature prominently in photos taken by the legendary guerrilla commander, notably the Zapata Swamp in Matanzas province, the Sierra Maestra mountains and the tobacco plantations in Pinar del Río.

 The photos on display belong to the collection of the Havana-based "Che Guevara" Studies Center.

Sponsored by the National Council on Fine Arts and the Cuban Ministry of Culture, the travelling exhibition ‘Che fotógrafo. Un artista llamado Ernesto Guevara’ has already visited most Cuban provinces.

It will remain opened to the public in Pinar del Río through July. Before the end of 2023, it will be exhibited also in the provinces of Artemisa and Mayabeque.
