La Edad de Oro adds to Guatemala's children's literary tradition
Guatemala City, July 22 (RHC) The presence of the first edition of “La Edad de Oro” (The Golden Age) in Guatemala today adds to the tradition of children's literature in the country, Cuban researcher Mauricio Nuñez acknowledged.
Frida Morales, a professor at the University of San Carlos, has included in the volume “Han de estar y estarán” a wide range of significant voices that accompanied several generations of Guatemalans, said the critic and journalist from the largest island in the Caribbean.
Morales reconstructed the history of this national artistic expression, covering from its genesis multiple elements of popular oral transmission of cultural imaginaries, added Núñez.
She is a convinced advocate of the importance and necessity of the closeness of publications in the early stages of life, stressed the doctor in Literary Sciences of the Center for Martí Studies in Havana.
In relation to the diffusion in this capital of “La Edad de Oro” (The Golden Age), by storyteller and poet José Martí, he congratulated the Editorial Cultura collective of the Ministry of Culture and Sports for the delivery of such a beautiful and well-made work.
This is the third title jointly prepared by the two states on the work of the Cuban National Hero, he pointed out, while recalling that they previously promoted “Lucia Jerez”, the writer's only novel.
Then, he mentioned that editorial Cultura prepared the essay "Guatemala" by José Martí, in which the author gathers all his geographical, socio-political and cultural impressions of the region.
This structure of "la Edad de Oro", similar to the previous volumes prepared, constitutes the expression of a team work between both countries, stressed Núñez, because behind the imagination and lyricism of each piece of this work there is a lesson for any reader of any age, because at each moment of life that we approach these speeches, they always leave us with a different and enriching message, he said. This new and beautiful edition, he said, is dedicated above all to Guatemalan readers and also means sharing the imagination of our children with those who have accompanied and guided many generations of Cubans since childhood.
The poems and stories of la Edad de Oro are especially attractive more than a century after their publication because the messages they convey are closely related to universal human values that are necessary in all times and latitudes, the researcher concluded. (Source: Prensa Latina)
