With a very long homer of Osniel Madera in the nick of times closing the 11th inning, Pinar del Río got an anthology victory over Matanzas in the 5th game of the 53rd Cuban Baseball League finals.

Madera rose from their seats to thousands of spectators at Capitán San Luis Stadium in the city of Pinar del Rio, with the biggest and electrifying homer of his career.
Pinar del Rio's triumph began to take shape at the end of the 9th when it managed to tie dramatically to 8, with a rally of 3 runs that left everyone speechless in Matanzas team and its supporters.

Now, the series for the national crown moved the balance 3-2 in favor of Pinar del Río, but the remaining 2 clashes will be staged at the Victoria Stadium Giron, Matanzas' fairground and fortress.

The credit for the victory corresponded to right-handed Yaifredo Dominguez, Urquiola's last available pitcher at the time.

Chess

Cuban GM Leinier Dominguez finished 2nd in the individual order at the Russia's Chess League Team, only behind Russian GM Alexander Grischuk, an event won by Malachite team, followed by the SHSM.

Dominguez 2,757 Elo points, rested on Sunday by his team's decision,  St. Petersburg, and said good-bye with 5 points in 6 presentations and a performance of almost 85%.

The Idol of Guines managed 4 wins and 2 tables to add to his Elo 11.3 units, which must be formalized in May to put him in 10th place in the world list.
However, his set ended with 3-3 tie against the SHSM team and had to settle for 3rd place, but a year ago, the St. Petersburg took 1st place.

Individually, the only one with better results than Leinier was Russian GM Alexander Grischuk (2777), author of 5 wins and 2 tables.

Judo

The Cuban Judo coach Ronaldo Veitía confirmed that his female team will take part in the upcoming Pan-American Championships of Judo in Guayaquil, Ecuador, from April 25th to 27th but with the same staff that competed at the Qualifying Tournament of Bridgetown, Barbados.

Veitía told AIN news agency that the chosen ones are again Dayaris Mestre, in the 44 kg, Celia Maria Laborde (48), Yanet Bermoy (52), Aliuska Ojeda (57), Olga Masferrer (70), Maricet Espinosa (63), Yalennis Castillo (78) and Idalis Ortiz (+78).

In this regard, he recalled that in Barbados, the Cuban team was ranked with its entire selection overlooking Veracruz 2014, after winning 7 titles (Mestre, Laborde, Bermoy, Ojeda, Espinosa, Castillo and Ortiz), and 1 bronze with Masferrer.

Mr. Santiago Chinea and Mrs. Fanny Vegas will support as trainer and psychologist, respectively, the outstanding professor, who explained that Onix Cortes (70) is now recovered from the injury and continues his training for the Top of Challengers to take place in Brazil in the first half of May, prior to the Grand Prix to be held for the first time in Havana in June.

Badminton

The Cuban badmintonist Osleni Guerrero defeated American Hock Lai Lee this morning and won the 1st place in the singles competition of the XIX International Badminton Tournament of Peru, played at the  Manuel Bonilla Gymnasium, of the city of Lima.

The Caribbean, 1st in continental ranking and 55th in the world, defeated the U.S. Figure in 45 min. game by 21-17 and 21-13 partials, to win the Peruvian contest for the 2nd consecutive year.

Osleni, ranked as 4th seed in the tournament, faced for the 1st time in his career the American Lee, who to come to the discussion of the title had to defeat Guatemalan Kevin Cordon, while the Caribbean beat Frenchman Arnaud Genin.
This is the 1st win of the year for the Cuban, who starts 2014 with 3rd place at the Giraldilla Tournament of Havana and was crowned in 7 of 11 tops in which he participated in 2013.
