Cuban delegation for Paralympic Games arrives in Tokyo

Tokyo, August 21 (RHC)-- The Cuban athletic delegation that will participate in the XVI Paralympic Games 'Tokyo 2020' arrived Friday in the Japanese capital from the United Arab Emirates, under strict biosecurity measures to avoid contagion with COVID-19.

The Cuban ambassador to Japan, Miguel Angel Ramirez Ramos, and Alberto Juantorena and Oscar Beltran, head and secretary, respectively, of the Cuban Paralympic Committee received the athletes (led by five-time champion Omara Durand), coaches, doctors and others, who had made a stopover in Paris.

"I am very well prepared physically and I will give my all on the track to get the results," said Omara Durand who will compete in 100, 200 and 400 meters.

The Cuban delegation is made up of eight specialists in athletics, two in weightlifting and an equal number in judo, and one each in table tennis, cycling and swimming, arrived at Narita airport.

On the 22nd, shooter Yenigladys Suarez, who remained in Dubai, a city in the United Arab Emirates, awaiting the entry permit for the weapons, will do the same.

The Village will be home to 4,400 athletes from nearly 160 countries, who will participate from August 24th to September 5th in 539 events.

After hosting the Olympic Games (July 23-August 8, 2021), the facility was closed for some adaptations to meet the needs of the new tenants, who have visual, physical or cerebral palsy disabilities.
