Cuba plants flag at the farewell of the Ibero-American athletics event

Alicante, May 22 (PL) - Cuba lived a dream day at the closing of the Ibero-American Athletics Championship in Alicante, Spain, with a total of six medals, including three gold medals in the women's sector.

The island's women had a leading role thanks to the performances of discus runner Yaime Perez and triple jumpers Leyanis Perez and Liadagmis Povea, as well as hurdlers Greysi Robles and Keily Perez.

Yaimé Pérez, Olympic bronze medalist in Tokyo 2020 and world champion in Doha 2019, sent the implement to 62.06 meters, to widely surpass Chile's Karen Gallardo (59.39) and Brazil's Andressa Oliveira de Morais (58.33).

In fact, Robles, champion of the I Pan American Junior Games Cali-Valle 2021, placed fifth all-time for the island, only behind Anay Tejeda (12.61), Aliuska Lopez (12.67), Yahumara Neyra (12.75) and Odalys Adams (12.86).

After the gold in the 100 m, with 10.15 seconds, Shainer Reginfo (21.01) won the bronze in the 200 m, after being surpassed by Dominicans Alexander Ogando (20.27) and Yancarlos Martínez (20.60).

Finally, Cuba closed in third place in the competition, with five titles, three silver medals and two bronze medals, in a general table led by the host Spain (14-eight-eight) and the Dominican Republic (six-five-three).
