Havana, December 7 (RHC) - The people of Havana, representing the entire country, paid tribute Wednesday to judo professor Ronaldo Veitía, who died Monday at the age of 75 in a Havana hospital.

The ashes of the man who is considered a legend of Cuban sports are on display at the Sports City, where the people pay tribute to this iconic figure of world judo.

From early hours of this Wednesday morning, a Cuban TV report showed how students of sports schools, Cuban sports glories, friends and people in general began to come to the facility on Vía Blanca and Boyeros to pay their last farewell to one of the legends of Cuban sports and world judo.

The decision, made by Inder together with her relatives, responds to the affection generated by the person who was the architect of the great triumphs of Cuban women's judo, owner of almost 60 medals in world championships (16 gold) and 25 in Olympic Games (5 gold).

The recognition began on Tuesday at the funeral home of her native Cotorro, where Jorge Luis Broche Lorenzo, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Party, covered the last guard of honor together with the president of Inder Osvaldo Vento.

Authorities of the territory, judo players who shone under his command, glories of that sport, children of the project embraced with infinite love by Veitía himself, and admirers went to the funeral home to show their respect before the corpse of the National Hero of Labor of the Republic of Cuba.
