Havana, January 3 (RHC)-- Aguilas Cibaeñas and Estrellas Orientales dawned today at the top of the semifinals in the Dominican Baseball League, after defeating Tigres del Licey and Gigantes del Cibao, in the last day.
The aguiluchos defeated the Tigres 6-2 with effective pitching by Cuban Roenis Elías, who pitched for more than five innings and took the win, while his compatriot Raúl Valdés, took the setback.
The aguilucha offense was led by Zoilo Almonte who batted 4-2, with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored, and the feline offense was led by Mel Rojas Jr. with two hits and a triple.
The Estrellas defeated the Gigantes 3-0 by scoring a run in the first episode and two more in the seventh.
The first was driven in by a single by Cristian Pache and the other two by a wild pitch by reliever Luis Perdomo and a single by Rainer Núñez.
Andy Otero (2-1) was the winning pitcher and Wily Peralta (0-2) lost.
In the standings, the leaders are followed by the felines and the Gigantes with a balance of four and five, just one game behind.
This Tuesday, Estrellas-Licey and Águilas-Gigantes will play.
