Havana, May 5 (RHC) - The three Cubans who stepped into the ring this Friday at the World Boxing Championship in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, were victorious in their bouts and Cuba maintained its undefeated record in the fight in eleven outings.
With the three wins on the day by two-time Olympic champions Julio Cesar La Cruz, Arlen Lopez and debutant Saidel Horta, the Cuban team remained unbeaten in 11 bouts.
In his debut in Tashkent, La Cruz, who is seeking his sixth world crown, defeated Bosnian Bosnjak unanimously (5-0), while Saidel achieved his second success with a 5-0 win over Trinidadian Josep.
On the other hand, two-time Olympic champion Arlen Lopez had a complicated debut and received strong opposition from Ashish, from India, in a level fight that was voted 5-2 by the judges.
In the end, the judges voted 3-2 in favor of the Cuban and had to go to extra voting, in which the two officials also leaned towards the stellar fighter from the island.
