Cuban women to participate in CONCACAF U-17 Qualifiers

Havana, July 29 (JIT) -- The Cuban national soccer team will participate in the CONCACAF U-17 Women's Qualifying Tournament.

The competition, which will grant tickets to the CONCACAF U-17 Women's Championship 2024, will feature 26 teams organized in six groups.

The tournament will be played from August 25 to September 2 in Curacao, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica and Jamaica.

In the different sections, a round-robin phase will be played to determine the leader, which will qualify for the CONCACAF U-17 Women's Championship 2024, joining the seeded United States and Mexico.

The team coached by Edelsio Griego will debut on August 25 against Barbados. They will then face Saint Martin, Antigua and Barbuda and Haiti in order, with a day's rest.

The Cubans will have a difficult task in defeating Haiti, with great development in women's soccer, to the point of exhibiting world level.

The last time teams from both countries met, during the 2022 Concacaf W. Championship, in the senior category, the Haitians convincingly defeated those from the Greater Antilles.

THE GROUPS

Group A (Rignaal Jean Francisca Stadium, Willemstad, Curacao): El Salvador, Trinidad and Tobago, Curacao and Cayman Islands.

Pool B (Pan American Stadium San Cristobal, Dominican Republic): Haiti, Cuba, Barbados, Antigua and Barbuda and Saint Martin.

Group C (Fedefútbol Sports Complex, Alajuela, Costa Rica): Costa Rica, Guatemala, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Turks and Caicos Islands, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

Group D (Felix Sanchez Stadium, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic): Puerto Rico, Honduras, Nicaragua and U.S. Virgin Islands.

Group E (Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica): Jamaica, Panama, Grenada and Anguilla.

Group F (Felix Sanchez Stadium, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic): Canada, Bermuda, Guyana and Dominica.
