Cuba's third group to Russia for Sports Festival

Havana, August 17 (ACN) -- The third group of the Cuban delegation that will participate in the International University Sports Festival in Yekaterinburg will leave today for the Russian city, venue of the event scheduled to take place from the 19th to the 31st.

After two departures on the 14th and 16th with the indoor soccer team, coaches and directors, this Thursday the men's and women's judo, wrestling and diving teams will travel to Russia, leaving only the rhythmic gymnastics team, which will leave on the 25th.

Antonio Becali, men's judo coach, will start with a complete squad with Yonathan Charón, in the 60 kilograms (kg), Danilo García (66 kg), Raidel Lenier (73 kg), Jorge Dariel Larduet (81 kg), Blasdiel Firth (90 kg), Maikol Cobas (100 kg) and Jorge Carlos Pineda (+100 kg).

Coach Yalennis Castillo (f) will do it alone with Aleanny Carbonell (52 kg), Yusmary Reyes (63 kg), Idelannis Gómez (70 kg) and Nahomis Elizarde (+78 kg).

From wrestling those who will make the trip are Yainelis Sanz (55 kg), Ángela Álvarez (57 kg), Geannis Garzón (74 kg) and Yosenky Castañeda (97 kg), all under the direction of coach Wilber Sánchez.

The ornamentalists will be led by Anisley García, together with Prisis Ledys Ruiz, Carlos Daniel Ramos and José Alfredo Quintana, who will compete in the springboard and platform, in both cases individually, as established in the diving tournament of the multisport event.

Indoor soccer players Melisa González, Sheila Suanmi Núñez, Yeranys Lee, Gianna Borrero, Nahomi Aguilar, Rachel Cepero, Braysi Cabrera, Lisset Duanis and Alina Trueba are already on Russian soil.

Completing the list are Jennifer Cartaya and Melisa Gonzalez, who will be in charge of the international debut of this Cuban women's discipline, under the tutelage of technical director Gregorio Morales, assisted by Merys Velgara.

The last group is scheduled to leave on the 25th and is made up of the artistic gymnastics girls, Gretel Adelaida Mendoza, Keyla Miranda and Leiti Cutiño.

According to the announced program, the first to compete for Cuba will be the indoor soccer players, from 19 to 23, followed by the judo players, from 21 to 23, wrestlers, from 21 to 26, ornamentalists, from 21 to 24, and rhythmic gymnasts, from 28 to 30.

As announced by the event organizers, badminton, 3x3 basketball, boxing, volleyball, table tennis, swimming, sambo, tennis and taekwondo will also compete in Ekaterinburg.
