Havana, November 16 (ACN) -- In an attractive seven-inning doubleheader, the Industriales Leones and the Avispas de Santiago de Cuba divided honors, on the closing day of the second particular sub-series of the II Cuban Elite Baseball League.
In the first game, held at the Guillermón Moncada stadium, the Avispas produced a decisive six-run run bunch in the sixth inning to win 6-2, with the success of reliever Anier Pérez. In that act, there was a homerun by the leadoff man Euclides Pérez for the Santiago team.
In the second inning, right-hander Reemberto Barreto was a key player in the Leones de la Capital's 5-1 victory, pitching 6.1 innings at a rate of four hits and four strikeouts, without giving out tickets, to get his second victory in the young tournament. Randy Cueto earned his first save.
The Blue Jays of the capital hit 12 hits, including a home run by outfielder Ariel Hechavarría, his second of the tournament, to equal his teammate Raico Santos and Yordanis Alarcón.
In the other game of the day, Artemisa scored 14 hits and won 9-3 against Las Tunas, which committed four errors and could not take advantage of Alarcón's home run.
For the Cazadores Artemiseños, Denis Laza, who went 5-4 with three runs, was outstanding with his lumber. Dario Sarduy got the win and Osdany Rodriguez got the save.
Sancti Spíritus and Matanzas sealed their game in the first inning with a 1-0 advantage for the Gallos.
With these results, Sancti Spíritus (5-2) leads, followed half a game behind by Industriales (5-3). Behind are Santiago de Cuba (4-4) and Matanzas (3-4), while Artemisa and Las Tunas share the cold basement (3-5).
