Havana, February 4 (RHC) -- Cuba's main medal hopes at the Grand Slam of judo in Paris, Andy Granda (over 100 kilograms) and Ivan Silva (90), lost today in the qualifiers, closing the island's performance without medals.

Granda, world champion in Tashkent-2022 and fourth in the world ranking, lost in the round of 16 to Kazakhstan's Verassyl Kazhybayeb, an athlete without great results, by Hansoku make (three warnings), the same result with which he had beaten the American Philip Horiuchi in his debut.

For his part, Silva, Baku-2018 world runner-up and sixth in the ranking in the 90 kilograms, lost at the Accor Arena hall in a surprising way in his first fight, against the Greek Theodoros Tselidis, ranked 21st on the planet.

Also this Sunday, on the third and last day of the Grand Slam in Paris, the young 20-year-old judoka Lianet Cardona (78) lost early, beaten in her debut by the Italian Alice Bellandi, universal bronze medalist in Doha-2023.

For Cuba and its eight competitors, the best performance was in charge of the 63 kg Maylín del Toro, seventh yesterday after falling in the repechage (Source: Prensa Latina).
