Havana, February 15 (RHC) - The best Cuban swimmer in recent years, Elisbet Gamez, said goodbye Thursday to the World Aquatic Sports Championships in Doha, Qatar, with 24th place in the 100 freestyle.
Gámez, 27, finished eighth among 10 competitors in the ninth and last heat of preliminaries with 56.20 seconds.
That time gave her 24th place overall out of 88 swimmers.
In her best event, the 200 freestyle, Gámez placed 27th with a time of 2:00:83 minutes, while in the 400 freestyle she finished 25th with 4.19.91.
Although the main figure of Cuban swimming could not qualify for the Olympic Games in Paris at the World Championship, she would still have other possibilities in the famous Mare Nostrum circuit, which will take place in the months of May and June in Barcelona, Canet and Monaco.
Elisbet's trainer, Luis María Mojarrieta, announced a few days ago that Gámez and the other Cuban ondina with options to qualify for Paris, Andrea Becali, will compete in the phases of Canet, France (May 25 and 26) and Barcelona (May 29 and 30).
