Havana, May 1 (RHC) - The four Cuban shooters qualified for Paris-2024, led by double Olympic medalist Leuris Pupo, will participate in two top-level World Cups ahead of the competition in the French capital.
These are the Rifle and Pistol Cups in Baku, Azerbaijan (May 1 to 12), and Munich, Germany (May 31 to June 6).
Then they will hold a training camp in Spain - on a date to be defined - a few days before the Olympic event, and from there they will continue their trip to Paris.
Of the four figures of Cuban shooting, two are already in Baku, the Pan-American rapid pistol champion Jorge Félix Alvarez and the riflewoman Lisbeth Hernández, and this Wednesday the gunmen Pupo and Laina Pérez should arrive.
The Baku competition will take place in the same arena where the last world championship was held, in 2023, and will bring together the main stars of this sport.
In the 25m rapid pistol, where Cuba's greatest Olympic hopes lie, all the leaders of the discipline registered, including the current Olympic champion, the Frenchman Jean Quiquampoix, and the world champion Li Yuehong (China).
Shooting is one of the sports in which Cuba has qualified for Paris with the greatest number of figures, with four: Pupo, the first athlete from the island to earn his ticket to the 2022 Americas Championship, and Jorge Félix, Laina and Lisbeth in the Continental Championship with Pre-Olympic category this year in Argentina.
