Cubans to second round in table tennis qualifier

Havana, May 16 (JIT).- Daniela Fonseca, the best Cuban table tennis player of the moment, was one step away from achieving an Olympic ticket in her first opportunity in the continental table tennis qualifying tournament for the Games. Paris 2024 Olympics, which is currently being hosted by the Peruvian city of Lima.

The Cuban won the ticket and was the only exponent from the Island who advanced to the final duel, but she fell to the Chilean Paulina Vega, one of the most experienced players in America and with two Olympic competitions on her record.

In the fight for the only ticket available in her key, the South American won 4-2, in a very level clash.

Daniela has a secure Olympic ticket with Jorge Moisés Campos in the mixed doubles of Paris 2024, and she will repeat the search for an individual ticket starting this Friday.

Among her victories in the event is one over the excellent Puerto Rican player Melanie Díaz, with partials of 4-1.

In the other women's bracket, Canadian Mo Zhang took the spot, winning 4-0 over Dominican Eva Brito.

Among the men, the first two tickets to the French capital were in the hands of the Argentine Santiago Lorenzo and the Mexican Marcos Madrid.

Four Cubans are looking for individual tickets at the Lima event: Daniela Fonseca and her companions Estela Crespo, Jorge Moisés Campos and Andy Pereira.
