Havana, June 2 (ACN) -- Cuba's triple jumper Leyanis Pérez, indoor world runner-up, will take action tomorrow at the seventh stop of the Diamond League of athletics of the current year 2024, taking place in Stockholm, Sweden.

Pérez, silver medalist in the world's indoor track event with a stage in Glasgow, Scotland, last March, will go in search of his second victory in that strong event, after winning on May 25 in the American city of Eugene.

Now in Swedish territory she will be one of the nine cheerleaders of the triple jump event, and among her main rivals will be Thea Lafond, from Dominica, owner of the universal title on Scottish soil.

Also registered is Jamaican Shanieka Ricketts, who has two silver medals in World Championships under her belt.

A few days ago in Eugene, the young athlete from Cuba won the fifth stop of that competition with 14.73 meters (m) in her first attempt, to emerge victorious in her debut in the current edition of that prestigious competition.

The triple jumper from the Island achieved a mark of 14.56 m in her second attempt and then 14.48 m, and then in her next three attempts she was left without valid limits.

Behind them were Lafond (14.62 m) and Ricketts (14.55 m), occupying places two and three, respectively.

Pérez, who finished second in Glasgow with a very good record of 14.90 m, added eight points in the Diamond League with that victory.

Already qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the Cuban won the bronze medal at the World Outdoor Athletics Championships held in Budapest, Hungary, last year.

Champion at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile, Pérez demonstrates in each presentation that she is among the elite of the triple jump worldwide, and in Stockholm she will want to continue with her good feelings.
