Cuban skater Iván Perugorria
Havana, July 8, (RHC) - Cuban Iván Perugorría gave Cuba its first gold medal at the Pan American Skating Championships in Ibagué 2024.
The title was obtained in the espoir category, free modality of the artistic discipline, during the fifth day of competitions that closed on Sunday night.
He achieved a score of 25.58, adding the short and long program, which elevated him to the top of the podium and placed Cuba in eighth place in the medal standings by countries of the event.
The performance of the Antillean skater was described as relevant by the Cuban board of directors of this sport.
According to Sabrina Sánchez, national skating commissioner, the other Antillean skater Cristian Jesús Álvarez, in the dance modality, is in the qualification zone for the Junior Pan American Games of Asunción 2025, but he has to wait for the Pan American federation to officially confirm the countries with tickets.
The continental competition in the artistic discipline continues with the celebration of a program containing nine events. Medals will be awarded in all the categories of the free category and there will also be action in the short program for junior and senior couples.
According to the tournament's website, the official opening ceremony of the Pan American Championship of Ibagué 2024 will take place this Monday night with the presence of the president of the Pan American Confederation of this sport (World Skate America), Alberto Herrera Ayala.
