Havana, October 28 (JIT) - Five of the eight registered Cubans will fight for medals at the Budva 2024 World Youth Boxing Championship.

The number was set on Monday with the victory of Yojander Fuentes (57 kg) over Greek Georgios Pleas, whom he eliminated by RSCI in the third round after clearly dominating the previous ones.

The success opened the doors to the bronze medal discussion, on Wednesday as opponent of the Russian Islam Ibragimov, one day after his teammates José Manuel Sober (48 kg), David Manuel Espinosa (67 kg), Yurisniel Abreu (75 kg), and Javier Alexander Rawlins (86 kg) fight in the same instance.

The opponents of the latter will be Azerbaijan's Bilalhabasi Nazarov, Moldova's Daniil Guranda, Kazakhstan's Sanzhar-Ali Begaliyev, and Russia's Kamil Dzhamaev, respectively.

Cuba won a pair of titles in the previous edition, held two years ago in the Spanish city of La Nucia, and leads the historical medal tally with 79 titles, 23 silver medals and 31 bronze medals.
