Leñadores de las Tunas

Havana, Dec 17 (PL) The Cuban Baseball and Softball Federation announced today on its social networks that the Leñadores de Las Tunas, reigning national champions, will be the team that will attend the next two international competitions.

They are the first edition of the Series of the Americas, to be played in Nicaragua from January 23 to 31, 2025, and the Champions League of the Americas, scheduled for Mexico from April 8 to 13.

This same Tuesday, the organizers of the Series of the Americas announced the official schedule for the first event, where the so-called “Eastern Nightmare” will face the Nicaraguan hosts, Panama, Curacao, Colombia, and Argentina in successive days before the semifinals.

This tournament is backed by the new Baseball Association of the Americas (ABAM), presided by David Salayandía. It will be played at the Soberanía National, Roberto Clemente, and Rigoberto López Pérez stadiums.

The initiative arises as a response to several countries' non-invitation of their teams to the Caribbean Series. It aims to promote solid unions among the nations of the region and to organize events for the development of this sport.

This alliance aims to project Latin American baseball in the world context and create more opportunities for international competitions so that the new talents of the area have another stage to demonstrate their tools.

The second edition of the Champions League will be played at the Alfredo Harp Helú Stadium, home of the Diablos Rojos, and will bring together, in addition to the hosts and the Tuneros, Curaçao, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, and the United States.

The Leones de Yucatán and the Mexican Baseball League (LMB) hosted the first edition last year at the Kukulcán Álamo Park Stadium in Mérida, Yucatán, where the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks won the four-team tournament, defeating the Caminantes de Barranquilla in the final.

The event, which was experimental, was also attended by the home felines and the Granma Alazanes, champions of the 2022 Cuban National Series.4
