The Cuban quartet of women's 4x800 meters relay ranked 4th in the 2015 IAAF World Indoor Championships, IAAF/BTC World Relays, Bahamas-2015 to set the best performance of the delegation of Cuba.

The race was won by the US with 8:00.62 min., a record for the championship, followed by Polish (8:11.36), and Australians with 8:13.97.

The Cuban relay, composed of Sahily Diago, Rose Mary Almanza, Gilda and Arletis Thaureaux Casanova registered 8:15.84, Cuban national record and the best result for Cuba in the World Athletics of Nassau.

The American quartet ratified the title won last year, while Poland and Australia rose for the 1st time on the podium in that event.

 

Chess
Cuban chess player Leinier Dominguez won his 2nd victory in the Russian Chess League and gave the victory to his club, the St. Petersburg team, by 3.5 to 2.5 over the SHSM team, from Moscow, in the 3rd round of the event, which takes place in the Russian resort of Sochi.

Leinier defended for the 2nd consecutive day the St. Petersburg's 3rd board with white pieces and won the Russian GM Eugeni Najer, owner of 2663 Elo points.

The other 5 games ended in tables: the also GMs Peter Svidler, Nikita Vitiugov, Maxim Matlakov, Maxim Rodhstein and Croatian Ivan Saric also competed for the St. Petersburg club.

After the Sunday games, the St. Petersburg team goes in 3rd place with 4 points, preceded by the local University and Siberia teams, with 6 pts each, while the Malachite team closes the table with only 2 pts.

 

Baseball
The Cuban slugger Alfredo Despaigne hit a home run in the 7-2 victory of the Lotte Marines against the Nippon Ham Fighters in the Japanese Baseball League.

Despaigne hit a homer that scored 2 runs in 5 at-bats, causing him to lose his average to 228, but increased to 2 homers and 7 RBIs.

The Cuban star has so far participated in 14 games in the Japanese League and has a record of 12 hits in 57 at-bats, including 4 doubles and 2 homers.

 

Badminton
The Cuban Osleni Guerrero, number 57th in the world ranking and 2nd seed of the tournament, beat Turkish Ramazan Ozturk in the final game 21-9 and 21-15 in 31 minutes of play.

With such a performance, Guerrero improved his last result at the Peruvian Open when he lost in quarterfinals to Brazilian Ygor Coelho De Oliveira.

In Chile, the Cuban badminton player defeated Turkish Enis Sesalan, while outscored Malaysian Misbun Ramdan Mohmed in his 2nd game.

This Season, Guerrero also won the Havana's Giraldilla Tournament in March, where he defeated American Howard Shu.

Winning in Chile is a huge step in his quest to improve his position in the world ranking and therefore, qualify for the Olympics Rio de Janeiro 2016.
