Montevideo, November 1 (RHC)-- Uruguayan Senator and former President Jose “Pepe” Mujica questioned the neo-liberal economic policies implemented by Argentina's President Mauricio Macri in an interview released on TV channel America.
“I've already seen that movie: the loans start, until at some point comes the moment of paying the bill, and back to tightening the budget,” he said. “I would be lying if I did not express any doubt about the economic program of (Macri's party) Cambiemos.”
About global politics, he recommended “patience,” warning about the right-wing movements in Europe and the United States. According to him, the fact that someone like Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump could emerge is less an issue than the reason why so many people would choose to support him.
He reaffirmed his support for peace in Colombia, wishing everyone would look more in depth into the historical roots of the armed conflict. “I will try to help however I can,” he said, adding that “if we manage to end this war, we would become the only peaceful continent, and this is not a small thing.”
