Washington, January 29 (RHC)-- U.S. House and Senate lawmakers have reached a deal on a new farm bill that would continue heavy subsidies for crops like corn and soybeans while slashing food stamps by about $8 billion over the coming decade.

The U.S. legislation would end billions of dollars in direct payments to farmers while expanding government-subsidized crop insurance. Anti-hunger groups say the bill boosts corporate welfare while gutting food aid for many families by about $90 per month.
