Geneva, March 7 (RHC)-- The Venezuelan mission in Geneva rejected statements by some UN experts at the Human Rights Council by describing them as part of an international misinformation campaign.

The experts are echoing manipulations by local and foreign powerful interests aimed at destabilizing the legitimate Venezuelan government and which sponsored a frustrated coup in the past, according to a statement by the Venezuelan delegation.

During a recent visit to Geneva, Foreign Minister Elias Jaua presented verifiable documentation on the reality of Venezuela both to the High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon.

Not a single protester has been arbitrarily arrested, the statement says, ratifying the government´s commitment to legality and the guarantee of the right to defense for any person under legal process. The mission rejected statements made on alleged arbitrary detentions and the excessive use of force against demonstrators.

Since February 12th, violent groups have carried out attacks against state buildings and public property, individuals, transport vehicles and even ambulances.

The statement says that Bolivarian authorities ratify guarantees of freedom of expression and peaceful demonstrations –- noting that the country is on the road to reconciliation thanks to the National Conference for Peace promoted by President Nicolas Maduro, which is also supported by the UN secretary general.
