Washington, August 27 (RHC)-- Environmental groups protested outside the Brazilian embassy in Washington, DC on Monday.
Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and his government have faced criticism over their response to fires in the Amazon rainforest. They stand accused of encouraging the Amazon's destruction through anti-environmental rhetoric and a lack of action on deforestation violations.
According to satellite data form Brazil's National Institute for Space Research 73,000 fires have been recorded so far this year in the Amazon, an 84 percent increase as compared to the same period last year.
