Quito, July 20 (RHC)-- The National Electoral Council of Ecuador (CNE) issued a statement accepting the report of the Comptroller's Office and suspending four political movements, including Fuerza Compromiso Social, an organization led by former President Rafael Correa.

"Apply the precautionary measure of suspension of the activity of the national political organizations "Podemos Lista 33" "Fuerza Compromiso Social, Lista 5" "Libertad es Pueblo, Lista 9".

"Social Justice, List 11" (...) the recommendation of the General State Comptroller's Office constitutes a reasoned request by the control body," states the CNE's communiqué.

The legal representatives of the suspended political organizations will have a period of ten days to present their respective appeals.  "The period of ten days is granted for the movements indicated to present proof of charge and appeal the decision, and the suspension of the activities of the aforementioned political organizations will also be applied," the CNE points out.

On July 14th, former President Correa denounced that the CNE gave in to pressure from Comptroller General Pablo Celi, Interior Minister María Paula Romo, and the government to eliminate the movement Fuerza Compromiso Social Lista 5 from the register of political organizations authorized to participate in the 2021 electoral process.

"Once again they are stealing democracy from us, the CNE gave in to pressure from Celi, Romo and the government will illegally and untimely eliminate Social Commitment List 5.  Never forget the names: Atamaint, Acero, Cabrera, Pita, Verdesoto," Rafael Correa wrote.
