Brazil exceeds 330,000 coronavirus deaths

Brasilia, April 5 (RHC)-- Brazil exceeded 330,000 deaths and is approaching 13 million coronavirus infections since the arrival of COVID-19 to the South American country.  Data from the National Council of Health Secretaries (Conass) show that 1,987 deaths and 43,515 infections were registered in the last 24 hours.

With these new figures, Brazil reached 12,953,597 infections and 330,193 deaths due to COVID-19 in the middle of the worst scenario of the pandemic.

Brazil registered in the last week 19,643 fatal cases of coronavirus, averaging 2,806 deaths per day until last Friday.  With this week's resultS, the country completes seven weeks of accelerated increase in the number of deaths.

In the first two months of 2021, the weekly death toll in Brazil was between 6,000 and 7,000 deaths.  This week Brazil registered 463,235 infected, after almost a month with figures above half a million. 

The Minister of Health, Marcelo Queiroga, met this Saturday with leaders of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) to explore ways to accelerate the anti-viral vaccination in the next 3 months.
